- Posted by jan on January 15th, 2004
Hi a friend of mine has got a broadband modem, but when he connects to
the internet, it only lasts a few seconds then he gets cut off with this
message:
C:\windows\minidump\mini011204.02.dmp
c:\docume~1\malky\locals~1\temp\wer2.tmp\sysdata.x ml
error797
He is running windows xp
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does this article help?
This error occurs only in Windows 2000 and XP. The error can occur if
the modem is no longer visible to the system, and may be a problem
related to the modem driver, or system conflicts that cause the modem to
work only some of the time.
In some cases, rebooting the machine may "solve" the problem.
If the modem is an external and is not powered on when the system is
booted this error may occur: shut-down, power on the modem & re-boot the
system.
If the error persists, check to see if there is an updated driver for
your modem.

Nothing helped so far he has updated everything he can and checked out the
page you suggested, connected with broadband modem and the same thing
happened.
He says he has read about deleting the minidump folder but was not sure if
windows would remake that folder when he rebooted, or does he need it?
Thanks once again,
Janet
