Cable internet

I have cable internet and I was wondering if I could hook 2 computers to it
and use them at the same time. Would the cable company charge extra if I did
so? mediacom is my provider.

Actually, most cable companies now only charge for the services you use
and equipment that you rent from them. The FCC has told them they can
no longer charge per outlet. Just thought I'd throw in a little FYI

As to the price question, I think Brian hit it on the head. As to the
hookup, yeah, just a X-port router or a router and a switch. (In this
case, the "X" is a number, sometimes 1, 2, 4, 8, 16.... Generally
speaking, you want more ports than you need - maybe 1 or two more...
Just In Case.)

Here's how you wire a 2-comp setup:

[Comp1]
|
|(EtherNet)
|
\
====[x Port Switch]--[Router]---[CableModem]
/
|
|
|
[Comp2]

USUALLY setting everything to DHCP is all you really need.

Good Luck! I'm pullin' for you.

Why have a separate switch when the router has a built in switch?

for your pc your neighbor could possibly biggy back your router with his

Your cable provider will charge you extra for 2 more IP address but
usually thats it and the charge is normally like $5.00 each per month.

I have connected two computers using just a network cable and two cards to
share internet access. This was using NTL in U.K and there was no problem.
