Cable modem problems (28/11/06)
Posted by me2 on December 17th, 2006

Just for information in case anyone else has the problem, it's not rare and
there are apparently a number of possible causes. The one that worked for
us was uninstalling Zone Alarm, after that, no problems.

Thank you, me2. I hope you have some sort of firewall between that cable
modem and your machine. Preferably a router, even if you're only running
one machine. A NAT firewall is very useful.

FWIW: I had problems with Zone Alarm's free versions and my LAN. I have a
router between my machine(s) and my cable modem. Where I found the ZAfree
lacking, the Zone Alarm Pro flavor has done most excellently at recognizing
my network(s) [wired and wireless] connections, halting traffic on a new
one, notifying me with sufficient information, and and allowing me to
respond either accepting or rejecting the connection[s]. YMMV.

Best wishes to all for a safe and joyous holiday season.

Some folks still say they had witnessed a miracle!

All was not going well when the glorified appearance of
St. Christopher suddenly appeared replacing the batter
and knocked the very next pitch clean over the fence
with 3 runners on base - in the bottom of the 9th inning.

But I still believe that it was just a lucky swing.
