- Cannot Open Internet Options...
- Posted by MelTorvick on December 1st, 2003
One fine day, I opened my laptop up, and proceeded to log onto the
internet. When I was connected, the Internet Explorer page that used
to carry my selected homepage had been changed to Bonzi Buddy. I went
immediately to Internet Options to change it back, and I got this
error message,"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions
in effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator." First of all, there IS no "system administrator". I
am the owner, and aside from a few family members who use this
computer, that is it. I emailed Bonzi Buddy, and they denied any
culpability in this matter, but did make some suggestions that didn't
pan out. I did, however, manage to change the homepage, by clicking
on a link on the page I wanted that said, "Make This Your Home Page,"
but I then tried to open Internet Options, and it still came back with
the same error message from above. Does anyone know how to resolve
this? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure you've looked already, but if not:

What could possibly be wrong with a 'buddy?'

He didn't say he had the Bonzi Buddy downloaded. He said it was set as his
home page. He needs to know how to unlock his Internet Options feature.

You are the system administrator.
A Google search for "restrictions in effect on this computer"
Shorter link is: http://makeashorterlink.com/?V2CC12DA6

The way you state your situation; "One fine day, I opened my laptop
up,............", leads me to believe that the laptop was already
running....and maybe asleep or hibernating. If you leave your computer
running all the time, things like this will happen. Now, I'm not saying this
is definitely the answer to your problem, but shut your computer down and
turn it off. Wait a few seconds and turn it back on. Go back and try your
Internet Options again. They may just work now. This is always the easiest,
cheapest thing to try, when something's misbehavin'.

I did a little research on google, and found that I can enter Internet
Options through the control panel, so the problem's solved. Thanks
everyone, for your help.
