- Cannot run IE 5 is more than 256 colors
- Posted by Ernie Werbel on August 7th, 2006
If I try to run IE 5 with my graphics set to more than 256 colors I get an error
and it crashes. Is there any way to cicumvent this?
Similarly, I had to use the /f:16 command switch to install due to memory errors
but that issue ha been resolved. This does not fix the current issue, but I am
wondering if something similar is required?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer a suggestion!

I don't think that computers had more than 256 colours when IE 5 was made,
upgrade to 7 or atleast 6

High color was available back in DOS when (color)VGA was first offered at
640x480.
For your IE5 problem, try resetting back to default under tools/internet
options. If that does not fix the problem, go to add/remove programs and
click uninstall and check repair for IE5 and Internet tools.
This fix assumes that you have true color available for your desktop and
other programs. If it is not available for your desktop properties that the
issue is with your video card drivers not IE5. Check that first before
changing IE5 settings. You may want to even get the latest video drivers
installed before doing anything else anyway
