- Can't install USB 2 or Firewire cards
- Posted by Freebie on March 10th, 2006
I have just added two cards to my PC, one is a USB 2.0 card and the other is
a Firewire card. Both plug into PCI slots. Both don't want to install to my
Win XP system Both ask for drivers, but the CD only has Win98 drivers and
the bumff says "no driver required for Win XP". I can't get a device to work
on these cards since they are not showing up as installed in device manager.
It says "the drivers are not installed". My PC is a Packard Bell iXtreme
9505. My USB 1.1 is okay, and now I am wondering if there is a problem with
the PCI slots. I plug them in and windows "detects" them by name, but will
not install them and keeps asking for a driver. Can anyone tell me what I
can do here?
Cheers.

Let`s start with the USB 2 card.
Go to it`s manufacters site and see if there are USB 2 drivers
available. The packaged docs might be rubbish.
You don`t mention your Motherboard, see if they offer
Enhanced USB drivers. (you need Enhanced drivers for USB 2.
Repeat for FW card.

Get rid of SP2.
