"Can't past image from clipboard" to Irfanview
Posted by Paul_B on August 31st, 2006

Often when I take screenshots (and maybe especially when they're
of my full multimonitor desktop), I can't paste them into
Irfanview (latest version).

I'm using the CLCL clipboard monitor/expansion utility, but I've
tried disabling it and still had the problem. The images'
thumbnails seem to show successfully in the CLCL buffer.

Sometimes opening a new instance of IV allows the paste; more
often not, however.

Is this common? multimonitor problem? Irfanview-specific?

Very frustrating.

I have had no problems with pasting into Irfanview. Are you using
edit/paste? Can you paste the image into wordpad?

Nice tip. It doesn't solve my problem though. see my last post:
the prob isn't IV-related, evidently, as it won't paste into
wordpad either. Alt-prtscn screenshots work; plain prtscn
doesn't. This leads me to think the multimonitor situation (3, on
two video cards) is at the root of the problem.

I've tried the menu, the context menu, and the keyboard; nothing
works.

Pasting into wordpad doesn't work either. So the prob isn't in
IV, evidently.

Note: when I do an alt-prtscn, which targets only the active app,
the image pastes. This leads me to think the prob is
multimonitor-related.

Start | Run <type in> clipbrd.exe <enter>

This opens your Clip Board, you can at least see if it's being copied.

Neat trick. This morning, after a night on Standby, I can paste a
full screen shot into IV, and can see it in the clipboard viewer,
but the image is 98% corrupted - mostly black with some white
specks and a few odd text characters.

Now I wonder if Standby somehow affects the clipboard.

Just to make this more complicated, there are two services
Start | Run <type in> services.msc <enter> that can come into play
with a copy and paste. They are network functions, but maybe that's
how your program works.

ClipBook and Network DDE DSDM they are dependant upon each other,
Might make sure they are enable'd.

I've tried using prt screen and alt-prt screen in Windows and it
never worked. Get a small screen capture program like an older
version of SnagIt and your problem is over. (Not to mention you
get an infinite amount of options.)

Interesting. My DDE service was indeed disabled. I switched it to
Manual but then it wouldn't start up due to problems with
dependencies. I'll keep an eye on this.

Thanks,

I've never had a problem with prtscn until perhaps when I went to
three monitors. But maybe I'll give SnagIt a look.
