Open Windows Explorer, left mouse click on the drive that you want to run
CheckDisk, and select properties. Go to the Tools tab, and select "Error
Checking". In the options, select the checkmarks to do the fixes. Next time
the computer re-starts, it should work. If not, there is a fault condition
with the drive, or there is some type of virus or software that is blocking
it from working.

Hi;
I wanted to do a chkdsk using Windows XP Pro, so I initiated it in the
usual way through my computer and properties on the volume. When I
reboot I get to the screen that chkdsk usually takes place and it says
that system volume is NTFS, could not access the volume, checkdisk is
complete.
It is possible to do chdkdk /r if I put in my windows XP Pro disk and
do a repair. It is also possible to do it from the command prompt but it
will not automaticly fix errors from there without rebooting and then I
get what is mentioned above.
Any suggestion on how to either make it work or to make the unwanted
screen go away?
