I can only get 16 bit color on my screen. I checked in display
properties and the display pixels and 16 bit color are preset.
I've got Windows 98SE{recently was upgraded from Win98.
How do I increase the color? As I said 16 bit is set and I
can't see anything{well blotchy, grainy pictures}.
I'm a newbie, so I'm LOST!!--------sandra

Sandra,
You are being limited by your video card and/or your monitor.
On the menu where you were looking, see if it lists a specific video card as opposed to a Standard this and that. If it doesn't list a specific video card, then try to identify the one in our machine by a serial number, or Model number and Brand to find the drivers for it. If you have disks or floppies that came with the card or computer they may have the proper drivers.
Go to www.driverguide.com and login
username drivers
password all
and search for the drivers.
Post if you have any more questions.

1. Please turn off the HTML. This is a text only newsgroup.

2. Please turn off the broken AVG signature.
Right click the AVG icon in the system tray and select the
E-mail scanner tab. Uncheck the option 'Certify Outgoing
Messages'. Apply / OK.

3. Download, install and run Aida32
http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

You need to update your video drivers. Aida32 will point
you in the right direction to download the latest drivers.

nottoman: The site said to go to Windows Update and ck. for drivers.
They ran a scan and they said they have critical updates, but no drivers.
This computer was given to me and no floppies or any kind of disks came
with it. I have looked for a brand name, but I can't find one. I'm so lost!---sandra

Thought that option only applied to email messages.

Identify the video card. (excuse me if this insults your intelligence).
You can manually inspect the card. (the one your monitor cable plugs into)
by looking inside the computer and pulling out the card and looking for
brand or model number.

First do as Mike suggested and download the AIDA32 program, install it and
play around with it to find if it can identify the Video card or adapter for
you. Then you can go to the driverguide.com site and find a driver for it.

Don't act lost, or the computer will sense your fear.
Be calm.....confident. Remember, you can turn it off any time you
want...right?

Well, the HTML is now off, but the useless AVG signature
is still on. It is useless because it serves NO purpose, and
is purposely broken, in that it uses three dashes as it's
delimiter, so that it does not get snipped in replies -- it's
a spam ploy on the part of Grisoft, if you ask me. Also,
it *cannot* certify that your mail or posts are virus free,
and if your system is clean, what is the point of certifying
outgoing messages?
