Comcast Customer Service - NonExistent
Posted by UnderDog on October 19th, 2003

I am having constant problems staying connected the internet via Comcast
broadband. I have attempted, over the last 3 weeks, to have Comcast resolve
this issue. Out of the numerous calls to them, on 4 occasions they scheduled
a tech to come to my home. Each time, the tech called and cancelled stating
the issue was resolved. Today being the most recent cancellation. The issue
is not resolved. I still have to constantly power cycle my modem in order to
get back onto the internet. Is anyone else having the same problem? I
emailed customer service, only to receive a generic email stating I have the
MS Blaster worm virus. That's kind of hard, since my OS is Windows 98 SE.
Needless to say, I've become somewhat frustrated. I was hoping someone here
could tell me how to get into the configuration page of my Toshiba PCX2000
modem. I would like to check the return/receive levels. I attempted to type
a few different IP address into my browser with no luck. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

I'm not from Comcast, or use their service, but here goes. Your
modem's IP address is usually your gateway, unless you have a
hardware firewall/linksys router between your computer and the modem.

Re: "Blaster Virus"

That's a good trick, getting Win98 infected by it. <G>

Thanks for the reply. I do have a Linksys router between the two. I'll
unhook the router and try again.

No need to unhook it. If you connect into your Linksys, you will
find your router's IP addy as it's Default Gateway... <G>

This issue was finally resolved, as for how it was resolved, I have no idea.
With each phone call, and scheduled (then cancelled by Comcast) house call,
they told me they can't find anything wrong. The customer service agents
were some of the most uneducated individuals I've ever had the misfortune of
dealing with. The tech reps weren't much better. I did finally get someone
to come out, only to tell me he has no idea what the problem is. He didn't
even go into my modem to check the signal levels. Instead, he went into my
router for some unknown reason, and said everything looks fine. To make a
long story short, I called to cancel. They then gave me the previous month
free and magically fixed the issue. I haven't had a problem for about 1 1/2
weeks now. We'll see if it lasts. If I had another option for broadband,
I'd take it in a second. Comcast is the worst company I've ever dealt with.
