- Comcast does NOT offer "always-on" cable internet
- Posted by 2 on July 16th, 2003
ATTBI did, but not Comcast.
One week after the big switcheroo, I'm lucky if my cable modem works 20%
of the time. I have had to wait 3 hours to get on line, and this has
been going on for well over a week.
I sent 4 polite e-mails to various support addresses last Thursday, and
have yet to hear word one. I called customer support once and the guy
told me to switch from USB to ethernet--would that really do it? Since
the USB worked fine for 6 months under ATTBI, I'm guessing he was just
trying to log another call as "completed."
Is it my computer? My cable line? A hidden driver somewhere? Or have
others experienced this problem? I recognize that the problem could lie
with my hardware or software, but the timing--right after Comcast put
their name on it and started switching people to Giganews--is just too
suspicious.
Thanks for any light you might shed on this.

My service has been for the most part excellent. Speed and connectivity
are all as they should be.

Okay, thanks everybody...sounds as if ethernet is the way to go. I don't
understand my 6 months of great USB connectivity, but the consensus seems
to be make the switch so I thank you all for taking the time to reply.

I'm a recent conversion also from Attbi to comcast. I'm in Oak Park,

I've not found any problem using USB.
Additionally I'm using wireless networking out of my USB to connect to
the Cable modem which is in the living room while my computer is in a
bedroom at the other end of the apartment.
Although I'm no networking expert (by ANY stretch of the
imagination!), I can't see why USB would be a problem. Nonetheless,
if it's easy to make the switch and they recommend it, I would give it
a try.
