Accepted in the spirit you meant, but now the rows begin. Only a small
percentage of the population wanted anything to do with it in London,
and hoped that somewhere else would get it and it would go away.
It didn't.

We must move in different circles. Everyone I have met without
exception is pissed off, particularly finding out that £20 a year is
going on Londons council tax and the lottery is going to be raided.
I would have supported it without hesitation if it were almost
anywhere else in the UK where it might have improved local conditions.
What about Edinburgh? A beautiful city and wonderful place for it, or
the citys in the north of England or Cardiff. London is a crappy dump
and the visitors are going to be fleeced to death, which will do our
reputation a power of good.

I live in Southern California. If Los Angeles can make it a success,
then anybody, anywhere can do the same. I have always found London
(from a visitors point of view) an interesting place, and in my opinion,
a far superior choice over Paris which was perceived to be the favorite.
You are your own harshest critic. Let the planners do their thing. I
bet that it will be smashing success.
BTW, your comments about Edinburgh is true. That would have been
special. However, the Olympics would require more resources than I
believe could have been pulled together by smaller cities.

Security alone will be a nightmare, & cost a ~fortune~.
Or is it just coincidence that this has happened the day after the
Olympics announcement, & during the G8 summit?

On different note, my condolences to the people and familys affected by
those blasts.
