For once, Dell is right - it cannot be removed. All systems sold within the
last six months or so are sold with SP2 integrated into the OS. Why on
*EARTH* do you want to do something so stupid as removing it...?
My guess is you believe everything you read online.... ;o)

Why would anyone want to remove SP-2 ??? Removing SP-2 lowers the system
security, and also removes many bug fixes.
If a system has been built up with SP-1, and then SP-2 added later, then
SP-2 can be removed. If the system is newly installed with SP-2 integrated,
then SP-2 cannot be uninstalled.

Deliberately downgrading from WinXPS2 to WinXP or WinXPSP1 leaves your
workstation more vulnerable to attacks. That said...
How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875350
Of course, that's only effective if you started out with WinXP or WinXPSP1
and applied SP2 over the top. If the O/S was installed with SP2 already
slipstreamed into it then it cannot be removed and Dell have only been
supplying WinXPSP2 on their machines for a number of months now. Anyway,
even if you could get it removed, to prevent it being re-downloaded from
WindowsUpdate you'd need this...
Temporarily Disabling Delivery of Windows XP Service Pack 2 Through Windows
Update and Automatic Updates
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../sp2aumng.mspx
As that article advises, any WinXP or WinXPSP1 workstation that connects to
WindowsUpdate on or after 12th April 2005 will have SP2 delivered to it
(whether they want it or not).

Because WinXP SP2 is more secure than WinXP or WinXP SP1.

Careful ... he's going to say the Win98 is more secure than XP SP2 ...
