Dial Up Problems
Posted by BMC on September 17th, 2003

My friend is having problems connecting to the internet via AT&T Worldnet
dial up. He lives in Northern NJ and uses the number, 201.221.2288 (i
think) to connect. Nothing happens. It just never connects. Not sure if
this is relevant, but a phone technician replaced some kind of phone wire on
the outside of the house because there was static when my friend was making
telephone calls. This shouldn't have anything to do with connecting to the
internet, right? The phone line works fine for incoming/outgoing phone
calls.

Thanks in advance,
kate

It could be the phone line. It's *possible* that the phone would
work on a line that won't support a computer connection. I'd suggest
that you try the help section on their site, first: http://www.att.net/
look for a trouble-shooting section, and alternative dial-up numbers.
If you need assistance from the newsgroup, you should mention which
Operating System your friend uses.
