disabled administrator account
Posted by Victor Abrahamian on October 2nd, 2004

While logged on to a guest account that's part of an adminstrators group, I
disabled the built in administrator account.
Now I don't have the rights to enable.

Anyone have sugesstions to this conundrum?
Thanks.
Vic

Try and avoid using the word 'guest' it's another type of account /
access level.

You say 'part of an administrators group' do you mean the group called
Administrators.

Odd how one can disable (using the tick box) - Administrator in Win
2000, looks like it could cause problems if accidently disabled.
I thought the administrator could never be disabled. As per
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

Network to a Win XXXX Server, run usermanager as PC2 Administrator and
connect to PC1 user/accounts manger. This works well in NT4 Server /
Workstation setup using User Manager for Domains.

This is to disable local administrator, see if it mentions anything else

Use the 'guest' as you say account to give itself max permissions,
maybe.

At your own risk

Me,
Thanks for the suggested solution despite my vague explanation of the
situation.
In fact, I am running XP as part of a workgroup.
My guest account, that is, the account that had Guest-level access was
indeed part of the Administrators group(as was your supposition).
Disabling the Administrator account locked me, and I am not sure how to get
back in.
Thanks,
Vic

why the fuck would you make the guest account part of the administrators
group?! are you retarded?
oh i see, the 5 letters are easier to type rather than 13 o_O

did you disable the administrator account? or the "Administrators" group?

If you are running xp, you may or may not have been asked to create a
"normal user" which would also be the computer administrator. Usually, it
one of the names on the the welcome screen.

So the default that should be disabled Guest account was moved into the
Administrators group. Not very clever.

IIRC the default account created during installation is an Administrator
account, login with that and try.

Firstly, if Guest account is still part of the Admin group, why don;t you
just log in as a Guest again, and uncheck disable option for the Admin???

I don;t think you have disabled the built in admin account cos as per
Microsoft XP Help file: "The built-in Administrator account cannot be
disabled. " Therefore you may still have the built in account available. You
have probably disabled the additional Admin account. Try entering with Built
in username "administrator" and blank password, unless of course that was
changed during the installation. If it doesn't work, you need to speak to
person who installed XP to get un/passw; or use some special tools which
I;'m sure someone else will be able to provide.
