That's a big list, in any format.

Is that really what you meant or do you want to try another question?

no that's what I meant - okay let me explain,
I have a idea about a new type of web site, but I need a list of domain
names.
I have written a VB program that will create a name from a string, and ping
it to see
if it is there or not ,
E.G.
ping www.bba.co.uk
ping www.bbb.co.uk
ping www.bbc.co.uk respond okay

But this will take a age to run, and for a good database it will take even
longer.
It would be better if I could get VB to return a list of domain names from a
IP address, I know for example that sites that host web sites can have
multiple
names on the same IP address, which I can not at the moment get to work.

Any idea's ?

Mike.

In that case it's worse, you did mean what I thought.

ping is bad, more so using it that way, doing it in slow VB6 worse.

Think of something else.

Yes.

You won't, if it's done by virtual hosts, the same server IP, can host
many domains and the translation is done internally.

Think of the name of the site, some serious thought, goto one of the
many registration sites and buy every .com .net .biz and gTLD you need.

If you Google more maybe *you* can fine something else.

However it's a bit of a big job, finding a list.

I'm still not 100% sure of what you need, but if you are just checking
out whether some domain names exist so you can name your new site, why
not just do some lookups at Internic?

Thanks for the reply's - and yes I have heard of Google
and yes I did do some searching first, but all I got was
page after page of 'buy your domain name here' sites
and non selling any lists.

I can not give full details as to why I want a domain name list,
as I want to set up my idea first.

thanks for the info - it least I can get started.

The poster said "VB". He did not state VB6, you snotfucked moron. He could
just as equally have VB.NET, and no doubt you're yet another fucktard cunt
who also believes that VB.NET is slower and less powerful than C++ and C#.

How about you simply think? Scratch that. How about you pick up a raw,
cracked egg with chopsticks?

Mike Walker, <mike42@ntlworld.com>, the archeological, muddled green bean,
and hair dresser, deprecated:

You are out of your depth. Way out of your depth.

Ping is pointless and wasteful; and if you to be able to find a database of
domain names, it would be way out of date well before you'd finished
downloading it.

The fastest way to do what you want, in terms of response speed, is to use
winsock to attempt a connection directly to a DNS name thus letting your OS
look after DNS name resolution. However the results will be innacurate in
many instances because not all domain names begin with www and some simply
do not use www. Web servers can be configured to not recognise www, and
others can be accessed with or without www in the URI. Secondly, not all
owned domains have DNS entries. There are innumerable domains that are owned
by or registered to someone but are not parked, hence they have no DNS
entry.

The fastest and most accurate method is to use winsock to connect to a WHOIS
service and interrogate the WHOIS database provided by the WHOIS server.

So, why are you completely out of your depth? Because you can't even use
google, you snotfucked moron.

Results 1 - 100 of about 34,200 English pages for "domain name generator".
