- dual processor / memory chips - query
- Posted by Ian Hooksem on January 18th, 2008
Hi Group
Thought I read somewhere that dual processor machines should have equal
sized chips in memory slots for best performance... e.g. 2x1024 or 2 x
2048, rather than 1 of each size. Any truth in that?
cheers, Ian

'Dual Processors' per see do not need 2x RAM modules.
However dual CPU processors and their motherboards are likely to feature
'Dual Channel' RAM.
This allows data read/write by interleaving access to each module
alternatively so time is saved by preparing the second bank for access while
the first is reading or writing.
Therefore for best 'RAM' speed 2 x matched RAM modules is best.
Paul.
