- DVD Burner Problem: "Read error on CD file"
- Posted by lbbss on December 14th, 2005
I got a new LG 4163B dvd burner and having problems burning. I burned
two coasters, but don't remember the error message (I think it was
verification problem also). Third one burned successfully then the
verification process too forever. When it was finished is gave me a
"Read error on CD file". Basically 10% of the jpeg I burned are
corrupted, but are not corrupted on my hard drive. Any idea why is
this happening. tx

Download and run aspi check from here
http://radified.com/Files/aspichk_4712.exe
If it says aspi is not installed correctly or missing, download this
http://radified.com/Files/ForceASPI_v17.zip
Extract all the files in it, then run INSTASPI.bat.
once its finished, restart your pc and run aspi check agin.

I downloaded it and ran it. Aspi is properly installed and fully
operational Sep 17 005. So what does that mean. What is aspi check
anyways? How does it relate to my problem.

ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. Originally developed by
Adaptec. It is a software layer that enables programs to communicate with
SCSI (and ATAPI) devices
CD and DVD drives are ATAPI drives.
I had the same problem as you and the way i fixed it was to install a new
aspi layer.
Have you updated the firmware on your drive?
What speed drive do you have and what speed disks do you use?
What speed do you burn at?

burn at 4x speed, dvds are 4x speed- no name brand.
ASPI32.SYS version 4.5.7 I don't know if that is a current version but
the date is sep 17 2005 (so I guess it is). I tried today with a
name brand (same color media) and it worked fine. tx
p.s. When I burn should I check verification? Can that be skipped, I
assume that just for my own benefit to see it it burned fine, but it
does not burn anything differently is I skip that process.
Verification takes an extra 15minutes longer to burn.

I am running 4.60 and they have been out for a long time.
4.60 are regarded as one of the best versions, i suggest running the
forceaspi program that i gave a link for in my other post.
