- dvd drive won't always play cds.

hey,
my dvd drive someimes has a hard time "waking up" when i first use
after i reboot my computer. on startup the dvd drive light blinks and
blinks until either the comuter gets bored or it realizes that the dvd
drive is still there.
when i first use the dvd drive with a cd already in it, it is usually
a gamble as to whether it will see it or not. if it doesn't i usually
put in a dvd and play it, then this seems to "wake up" the drive
sometimes and the cd gets recognized when i put it in. the dvd that i
use to wake it up is a dvd lens cleaner, but i have to do it fairly
often so i am pretty sure it's not a dirty lens.
sometimes the dvd drive never stops blinking and i can't get it to
eject without rebooting.
any ideas?
