- E-machine Problem
- Posted by MrB on July 6th, 2003
My friend has a newer E-machine with XP Pro installed. Today, he tried to
install the software for an HP all in one Officejet 6700xi. The software
install stops about 63% of the way through and a message comes up that says
Windows needs to install a file, please insert the XP Pro disk, which does
not come with the E-machine. Inserting the recovery disk of course is not
recognized. This is one of the main objections I have with the E-machine,
but is there a workaround? I couldn't find a solution at the HP web site.
There is no option to browse to the windows files or any other file when the
message comes up. There is no indication as to which file(s) need to be
installed.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

You've probably seen this already:
HP All-in-One Products - Installing the HP Officejet 500 and 600 Series
in Microsoft (R) Windows XP

Did you check parallel port settings as described in this doc? Note the
'contact HP' section at the bottom of the page. HP states they've
verified their product for XP so they should give you lots of help.
It's odd that the name of the file needed is not mentioned. What is the
exact nature of the error message?

Additional info. The same software installed flawlessly on his wife's
Toshiba laptop, which uses XP Home for an os.
