Email & password

Something is 'bugging' me. I have an account with Hotmail and they won't let
me 'know' my password even if I ask them for it either on the phone or
online....'I can only change it....'if you see what I mean?
Anyway, that seems to be fair enough as I always thought that nobody was
supposed to know your password except youself and that includes anyone who
works for your isp. Compuserve and Tiscali will NOT tell me either,
BUT....'I got a phonecall the other day from Freeserve and they said my
account had been 'suspended' as I hadn't used it in a while. The thing is,
the guy on the phone said he'd re-start the account for me, but then he
asked me to confirm my username and password...'HE told ME what my password
was! Surely this is a strange thing to happen....'or isn't it?! How can it
be a 'secret' password when HE knows it too? Was he correct to tell me my
password on the phone? I mean, he could've been talking to anyone....'how'd
he know it really was me?
Hmm. Just wondering.
Geo.
