if you are using a peer-to-peer network then the other machines' users need
to be set up on each machine anyway otherwise they won't be able to access
anything at all.

Does anyone know the score in this area under windows xp op
I want to set security permissions on a shared folder named
private on my network. 3 machines need access and 2 need to be blocked.
I tried to set this up but without much joy, i right clicked the private
folder
clicked on sharing and security / security and got lost trying to find the 3
users
on my network- they don't appear to be in the list, so i can't set any
permissions
only users currently assigned on that pc.
If anyone can advise i would be very greatfull
Thanks

"password change on first login" or "password never runs out" and apply
passwords for each pc) then on the security tab they will appear.. then set
the folder rights foe each user.. when a pc tries to connect to the host pc
a dialog box will appear asking for username and password

or even set up a group called "share" and set the policy for that group
(easier this way) will not have set folder rights for each user this way.
then add the three users to that group..
