Floppy Disc Drive
Posted by JP on September 24th, 2003

Hi,
Can I remove the floppy disc drive from my PC without any adverse effects? I
have a small case and want to replace it with an IDE card reader. Using
Windows 2000.

TIA.

Gareth.

You will have to go into your bios setup and tell it there is no floppy A:

You should be fine from there

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean the boot order or in another section as
well?

Gareth.

I don't think that the boot-order has any significance to situation, though
you might well want to change it anyway.

On my 'AMIBIOS', on first screen at the top is 'Standard CMOS setup', select
this.
On 'Standard CMOS SETUP' screen you'll see your floppy-drives listed (A &
B).
Floppy-drive 'B', you'll see is marked 'Not Installed'.
Thus you need to select 'Floppy Drive A:' then change this to 'Not
Installed'.

Note that if you have allready removed the floppy-drive then the A-drive may
allready show as 'Not Installed.

Now back out to the first-screen, save changes, then reboot.
Maybe even go back into BIOS to check all is as you want it.
