- Floppy drive not working
- Posted by John Stahl on February 7th, 2004
I just installed a Gigbyte GA-7VT600-L motherboard in my system.
Everything is working fine except the floppy drive.
The drive is detected by the bios but can't read any disks. The drive
light is continuously on even when no disk is in the drive. I
installed a new floppy drive and the same thing happens.
Any ideas?

Check to see if the floppy driver is compatible with your new board.

Normally caused by either the plug on the back of the drive being on the
wrong way around or the plug on the board being the wrong way around, easily
solved by using a screw driver (to open cabinet) a torch & a little sense...

Plenty but can't be published;-)
It's the bloody cable that's not inserted the right way round!
Do a google search! Oh dear I'm becoming sanctimonious:-(

Make sure you have the cable turned in the right direction. There is a
color on the edge of the ribbon cable which shows where you connect pin one
make this correspond with pin one on the floppy drive and on the board there
should be an indication of where pin one goes and if you can't see it on the
board find it in the manual.

===============================
As has already been said you have your ribbon cable the wrong way around.
But you now have another problem.
Any disks you have put in your disk drive when the light was permanently on
will have been wiped.
Regards
Wal.

Thanks to all. I thought that I had tried this already but I guess I didn't
do it correctly.
