You used to be able to hold ctrl when closing a window to have windows
save the size and placement of a window, its not working anymore.
Im trying to get my explorer window to be larger when I open it and Im
not having much luck.

Make sure the window, while large, is not *maximized* when you close it.

no they aren't maximized, my explorer window takes up about 60% of
the screen. It just won't open the same size that it was when it was
closed, i always have to make it a bit larger each time I open it
