- format c: drive
- Posted by Ian Fraser on February 8th, 2005
Hi Everyone,
I have just had an idea, re formatting my hard drive on my old computer
could someone
please tell if this would work.
My new computer has a caddie in it. This is my idea; put the hard drive from
my old computer into
the caddie then put the caddie into my new computer and then format it and
put it back in
the old computer!
Will this work?
Thanks
Ian

install W98 or earlier O/S format as FAT or XP as NTFS if you have a large
hard drive

You cant install the OS in the new machine and expect it to work in the old.

Yes but, your going to need a system on it to boot up.
I suggest you download the Win98 SE boot disk
(Bootdisk.com) Boot up with the Win98 disk, with your Hard drive in your
caddie type - format (caddie drive): /s
This way when you put it in your other computer it will boot up and not
complain it's missing an operating system. Won't be anything there but
it will boot up.

Yeah, but why bother? Why not just format it in the old computer? What
is it you are trying to accomplish?
