- Posted by Peter on January 14th, 2005
Hi all and thx for your help.
Can someone please tell me the correct way to format my 80 gig h/drive
please. Its running win xp at the moment.
Also after formating I am told that all the info is still actually on the
h/drive and can be retrieved.
Is there a way to format back to its origanal condition so that the info
cannot be retrieved.
Thx for your help
Cheers all

A format just reconstructs the allocation table and checks the blocks on
the disk. It does nothing to remove the data, it simply leaves it
"unprotected".
To make the data more difficult to recover use a product like Eraser, a
free download. This works by overwriting the data several times.
