- Going wireless without ethernet port?
- Posted by JW on December 29th, 2004
HI,
I have a T1855 eMachine. Santa brought me a laptop (Toshiba A65) but I'm
having trouble hooking up the NetGear wireless router. Instructions call for
using an ethernet cable and it doesn't look like I have an ethernet port on
my computer. Is there another type of router available? What are my options
other than buying a new computer?
Thanks for your insights!

Bullshit. The A65 has integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN, V.92/56K modem, IEEE
802.11b and 802.11g wireless.
Next Christmas, tell santa you want a pair of fucking spectacles.

If you have to smear MS to make linux look good, what does
that say about Linux?"

Hopefully you have a PCMCIA slot. Buy an ethernet card. Either 10/100
(wired) or a wireless card (matching your routers wireless "band")
http://tinyurl.com/5nfz4
This page also shows the USB ethernet adapter.
(wired)
"Wireless" means you don't need a cable.
Examples of wireless adapters and cards are here:
http://tinyurl.com/3yvvg
You need to match the card to the wireless "band" that the router uses.
(some are multi-band)
e.g. B band, G band, A+G band
An ethernet cable will be used between your cable modem and the router.
(WAN port on the router)
Your wireless router *MAY have ethernet ports for wired connections; some
may be connected either way (wired or wireless)

Links are for examples. Netgear makes all these products, too.

Har, har--- built in wireless.....hahaha
However, two conveniences you'll like are the Wi-Fi on/off switch and volume
wheel
.......built-in V.92 modem and 10/100 ethernet, 802.11g wireless, touchpad
pointing device
Did I get trolled so early in the morning? (has an ethernet port, too)
