For some reason I stopped getting any newsgroup messages since
12/08/2007. I tried deleting all the newsgroups and then resubscribing to
them which didn't help. Does anyone out there know what has happened. I
have no clue.

Your news provider is EL EarthLink. EL has a terrible problem with its
news admin and its news resources and currently with its newsserver. If
you go to your provider network status page you will now see news
status/ed as having a problem.

The deficiencies and lack of support for EL news has been a problem for
a very long time, this situation since Friday is the worst it has been.
Allegedly EL admin intends to restore news, but some of us doubt if
there will be any real improvement in the fundamental problems which are
lack of resources devoted to news including hardware and administrative
expertise.

Every EL user should get an alternate source for their news.
Googlegrouping doesn't get it. There are plenty of free newsservers and
plenty of nearly free newsservers and plenty of very very economical
newsservers such as those which sell non-expiring blocks very cheaply.

Yeah, but do you have any "clue musk"? You need a whole bottle of that to
really attract the clues, especially in this seasonal environment.

I do have one clue left, Sally. I'm not sure I want to spend it here, but
what the heck, since it's close to Christmas -- from your post:

I think the wormhole has deposited you at the wrong place in the time-space
continuum. Look around... Do the other peoples have gills on their necks
or anything like that? How about dogs and/or cats flying around? If not,
that's probably a good thing. <whew>

This same post came up last week or so. Go back and try to find the
portal, and repeat the transport sequence one more time. Errrggghhh... Or
maybe not. You could end up with a lot of dinosaurs around you, and then I
don't even have a clue how you would post your message again.

I think the best bet may be to just get yourself a premium server, and then
take a nap until about a week after New Year's Day...

Be sure to write and tell us how it all shakes out.

Best wishes to all for a safe and joyous holiday season.

I just reset my list and redownloaded the last 300 headers for this
newsgroup on that newsserver and the most recent was Dec 8.

That's not what I see.

Hello back at ya, x@y!

My reply was really directly to the OP. Didn't see Mike's or consider it.
Not being rude or curt, just that I recognized the post and the poster and
the averred complaint, and sought to make some fun of it - while
surepticiously suggesting it may be something obviously simple thus thereby
overlooked, prior to the really viable suggestion to get a premium news
provider. In fact last week I suggested the OP might even dwelve into a few
of the free text news providers which are offered.

You see, based on the facts advanced by the OP, she won't even see her own
post appear for another 2 weeks or so... That's a repeat of the theorem I
advanced on my reply to this post last week.

So, in short, I'm not always sure how you guys operate, but I'm *never*
stepping on anyone's posts deliberately, and I'm *never* competing with
anyone's post - or in some sort of race to see who gets the answer first type
of scenerio. That is not where my head it at. If I see something that I
have an idea on, I post it - pretty 2 dimensional all around from here.

I see you're posting from OE6. My news client has a "previous" button, and
if you click it back, incrementally to each previous article, you'll see that
Mike's reply in not in this chain.

Anyways, to the issues at hand: I sure hope she get's it worked out - and
it's not some sort of time-space-wormhole-parallex, because if I get caught
up in any of the collateral damage, I'm sure going to miss my bowling league!

Best wishes to all for a safe and joyous holiday season.

Assuming, of course, that whatever is the particular newsagent, that
agent is configured to order by 'thread' - which thread meaning by
convention is an order based on the mid/s in the References line - and
which References line 'thread' creates a 'tree' structure of the
messages whose hierarchy is based on those message id/s, and which may
actually fall out of 'pure' chronological order.

If, on the other hand, the newsagent is configured to sort by some other
field value, such as the subject primarily and the timestamp
secondarily, then the next or previous message might be different re
your reply and my reply, because of their chronology rather than their
message id/s.

Some people prefer to read the messages of a particular
'thread'/subject/topic chronologically rather than treebranched
structure messageid 'thread'.

Of course, if someone gets their machine clock/calendar set on the wrong
year or hour, that might create some disorder, bringing us back to the
issue of Sally's date error.

And your point is that you read chronologically, rather than by structured
treebranch? Well, OK... I think OE just might have a somewhat stifled
display with regards to newsgroups, but I'm OK with that.

And taa taa daa ::here you are:: on about what, I just don't know...

But it does seems like you might have a problem. Or perhaps I'm not
rendering unto you all of the prestige and importance that you truly deserve
and have always deserved, and you're just not getting it from me in this
particular thread? Or anywhere else? And it's almost like I'm not really
listening deeply to your profoundities, or like I don't really care about you
personally?

Hmmm. Wonder how'd you ever get that idea? Buh bye now.

Customers utilizing Earthlink's DSL and Home phone service may experience
difficulties using Earthlink's News Groups. Our engineers are aware of the
issue and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

So contact your isp and let them know that you are inconvenienced.

EL customers have been complaining for months now, as reported in the EL news
server internal newsgroups. But the service just keeps getting worse. No new
groups, lousy binary completion rate, and much down time. MSN abandoned their
news server some years back and now EL appears to be doing the same. My guess is
that they really don't care because most of their customers don't even know what
Usenet is these days. If and when the EL server returns and the OP can read
this, I recommend a switch to another ISP and/or news server. I did, and my only
regret is that I didn't do it sooner...
