Hijack? Virus? Spyware?

I just received an email from a friend. He tried to print out an email
that I sent him but his printer suddenly started printing several pages
of garbage from some web site. His son uses his computer and told him
that when he was on his friend's web site the printer suddenly started
printing. I realize that this isn't mush information but this is all
that I know. The friend isn't very good with computers and it is hard
for me to make him understand what I am asking him. He lives in another
state so I can't see it for myself. Any ideas from the small amount of
information that I have?

That's a pretty good description of something.

That's some useful contributory information.

Troubleshooting remotely is a bitch, ain't it? ['Scuse me, ma'am]

I have a friend who is better than average and it is sometimes hard for
us to understand each other.

And that's the way that works. It would also be hard even if he lived
in the same state and another town over yonder, unless you had a
helicopter.

Maybe there was still stuff in the printer queue from the previous
printing misadventure by his son. Maybe there is something 'worse'
wrong that will persist. Clearing a printer cache/queue is sometimes
tricky. It is possible that might solve the problem, or it is possible
that there is a 'demon' such as a virus/trojan doing badthings.

If we are going to be clearing printer queues, we are going to have to
know his operating system.
