HP Jordana 565 Compatability Problems
Posted by Margo on November 18th, 2005

I with to purchase a program that is available for pocket pcs. I already
found one that I tried to install from my desktop but was unable to open
because it was a "prc" file. Then I tried to download directly froim the
pocket pc, active sync 3.8 when I went to install that I had a message
saying my ppc was not compatible(msasync) with that file. Yet I have
already in the ppc an older version of active sync. What is strong arm and
do I have this in my Jordana. I have that I have windows CE for my
operating system but I can't find anything to back this up in documentation.
It would seem like I do not have pocket pc for windows. Needless to say I'm
confused. Any help would be appreciated. I already send a message to the
newsgroup for mspocket pcs and tried to get in touch with HP. Not much help
there at least yet.

When getting software for a PDA you have to watch out for two things:

1. that it is compatible with the processor inside your PDA (ie: MIPS,
StrongArm, etc...)

2. that you have the minimum version of the operating system required
(Windows CE, PocketPC2003, Pocket PC2003SE, Windows Mobile are all
different and an app made for later version doesn't have to work on the
older operating systems!).

example: I own a HP Ipaq 2215 with Strong Arm processor and PocketPC
2003, which means any app needing 2003SE will not work on it properly.

Going by the fact that yours is a Jornada range pda I would suggest that
you are running Windows CE (support for this OS is fading).

What is the exact model number of your jornada PDA?

Kind Regards

Oh, I am blind - just realized that you wrote the model number in the
subject field.

HP Jornada 565 runs "PocketPC 2002" on a "StrongArm" processor.

When looking for new applications always make sure that they support
both of those two.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards
