All,
I have cable modem service with a wireless router and both wired and
wireless clients. I am seeing a perplexing performance issue, and I
am hoping someone can help me diagnose it:
Web browsing (http) is slower than normal, and secure sites (https)
are very slow (think dial-up speeds). However, my ability to download
files (like large PDF's) is not impaired at all (around 500 Kb/sec).
This condition is present on the wired and wireless clients. Wiring
the cable modem around the router (directly to the wired client) does
not improve the performance of the wired client, and is very bad for
the performance of the wireless clients (laughing).
I'd laugh longer, but this issue is getting very annoying:
1) From my work, the same slow sites consistently pop, so I know it's
not the site servers.
2) At home, file performance is consistently good, so I'm not
suspecting bandwidth between me and my ISP.
3) I've disabled anti-virus, client firewall, bypassed the router (and
its hardware firewall), phishing filter, etc ... all which have never
been problematic, and do not resolve the issue.
The only thing that makes sense is something that impedes http and
https requests (from me) or responses (from my ISP).
Any advice is welcomed.
Thank you,
Chris
