Internet and Cable Modem
Posted by Louise Moore on September 13th, 2004

Hi there..any ideas on this? Internet is accessed through cable modem which
has been re-installed in XP. Its seeing the modem fine and can I ping web
addresses plus the NTL default gateway. However, it will not see my email or
any web page in Internet Explorer 6. I am being allocated an IP address fine
through my ISP (NTL). Any ideas?? Using XP Home.

Louise Moore vaguely muttered something like ...
What do you mean 'not see my email' ? Is there an error message ? Sounds
like settings need setting correctly, which might also account for the IE
problems.

When a friend of mine moved he had his cable connection installed at the new
address but it wouldn't work and showed the same symptoms you are getting.

Discovered that he needed to complete a registration process before the
cable modem would allow access - the registration page is the only thing you
can access prior to completing it.

Robin Walker has some excellent pages of information:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.../register.html

The registration page is at:
https://autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html
(you will need JAVA scrips enabled).

Failing that a call to NTL support may well be necessary.

In article <qik1d.1012$5K3.352@newsfe6-gui.ntli.net>, Stace says...

Correction: "...you will need JavaScript enabled." No, the error isn't in
the spelling of 'scrips', though that is an error; THE error is that JAVA is
a Sun Microsystems cross-platform programming language which is completely
unrelated to JavaScript. BT Yahoo! Internet Service uses the standard Yahoo!
site access requirements; cookies and JavaScript.
