Internet Problems
Posted by Cassie Hornibrook on January 20th, 2006

Hi,

Can anyone help, please? My friend is having internet problems, he's got
cable internet and is able to use the internet except for accessing search
engines such as google, many times he has asked me to go to a certain search
engine to see if it is the search engines fault or his computer (on his
computer it states that the page is missing). I have now decided that there
is something wrong with either his computer or his internet connection.

Does anyone know what the problem is and/or how to fix this?

Thanks

Cassie

Sounds to me like his browser has been hijacked. In many cases, these
hijackers will force the browser to go to less scrupulous search engines, or
it will simply not work at all.

At any rate, the system needs a good looking at by someone who knows the
tools to clean it up, and (most importantly) how to use them properly, as
some of the tools can cause further problems if used the wrong way.

Hi,

Thanks Erick, I have forwarded that information onto him. Hopefully his son
will attempt to fix the problem now.

Cheers

You can try using the normal spybot and adaware scans. Make sure you get
the latest updates. Also 2 other ones I found helpful are hijackthis and
cwschredder. You can find all these utilities at download.com

You could also try doing a system restore to an earlier time where it was
behaving correctly. (if xp)
