- laptop to PC?
- Posted by Steve & Chris Clark on November 16th, 2003
I just bought a used laptop and am quite happy with it.
I got the Toshiba Satellite 4010CDT which was designed in 1998 for Windows
98. The person prior to me as Windows XP Professional installed on it. I
have a few questions.
1) Does anyone see an immediate problem with that laptop using XP?
2) What is the best way to plug into my personal PC with my laptop?
3) Can I go online through the laptop when it is connected to my PC?
4) Do I have to actually set up another Internet account for my laptop to
access my Outlook Express account with my server?
5) There is presently no virus scan program on my laptop which makes me
nervous and I'd like to first get one on there but don't have a CD since
I've been using AVG on my PC for almost 2 years and love it. This is my
reason for wanting to connect to my PC and also go online.
I know that's quite a few questions but thank you kindly in advance.
Everyone here has always been great in the past.

Once networked, download and install antivirus.

It's a bit slow, but with memory upgrades it _does_ run ..
I have (well
my sons now has) a 4000 CDT but we stayed with 98SE due to the spped problem
...
Network connection. I also have a USB 'file-share' connection.
Yup.
Nope, not when connected as a network, or using Internet Connection Sharing.
er .. download AVG and install it to the laptop maybe ..
Heheheh, I can imagine ..

Yes, there is no video driver for XP available for this Pc
no video accelaration.
well, in my 4010CDT is a wireless card.works great with a wireless router.
my router connects to internet directly so both pc's can connect separate. To
answer your question yes, you can.
you can use the same settings.your service provider cannot see which
computer you use.
well keep using that program.

Thanks and actually if you go to Yahoo and search Toshiba Satellite 4010CDT
you will see a subject come up with a link to video drivers. Let me know if
you don't see it when doing the search. If it isn't on the first page
simply do a Toshiba search. I know I saw something concerning this.
Would you recommend uninstalling the XP and putting Windows 98SE on instead?

Oh oh.....Mike. I forgot to mention one thing that could be crucial. My
home PC is Windows 98SE and my new laptop is Windows XP Professional. Is
that a problem when I wish to network?
Sorry because this is probably a really basic question.
