LCD Monitor response time/spec advice
Posted by SS on February 4th, 2006

Looking at buying an LCD monitor but unsure of the spec to get. Looking at
one from Ebuyer (cheapest price) with a 25ms response time (15+10) - is this
good/bad/average? what does the (15+10) mean? Also the brightness is said to
be 250 (typical) and contrast ration 600:1. Good or bad?

I intend to use the monitor for autocad but it might also be used for kids
games sometimes

You could look up many reviews and find out what the response times ,
other specs are.

25 is the total and the split timing is pixel rise and fall. (Knew this
bit)

Differences in the times , say it was 20 + 5 or 12 +12 (okay 25 is a bad
example here) also indicate differences in the way different moving
objects are seen. It also indicates the type of screen technology.
(Didn't know that bit , but a quick Google search turned up an answer)

Another answer is Google try using it.

25ms is on the higher end of the scale now, although not a gamer myself
many are 16ms for 20in and even 8/4 nowdays.

As an example , PC Pro magazine , the monthly "A List" items

19in TFTs - ViewSonic VX924, £260 inc VAT GBP , delivery 11
4ms , 270cd , 550:1 , 1280 x 1024

When buying a monitor never go the "cheap" route.
Its the thing you look at the most and the "cheap" route affects your eyes
the most.

I love my Dell 1905FP and the 19inchers have really come down in price
recently.

CRT is being phased out due to disposal problems. LCD displays can't
handle refresh rates or display modes compatible with many computer
games today. But, they take up less shelf/warehouse space.

The inferior product at triple the price. Gives me a hardon knowing I
got 3 times the product at 1/3 the price!! BUT, CRT monitors are headed
down a dusty road.

One viewpoint.

and another.

At the end of the day, buy on credit, IMMEDIATELY test all family
favorites to insure they even work. You've got 30 days, in general to
say, "wha'hu, this don't work" the way I was told.

Best wishes.
