Glad to be of help in the first instance. I use Mandrake 10.1 as my
primary desktop and haven't used RH9 for at least 12 months. The
configuration you use to connect to the internet will depend on your
connection type: DSL, cable, as part of a network etcetera. If your using
an internal dial up modem pretty well forget it and buy an external
hardware modem. Internal modems (winmodems) rely on windows software
drivers to get them to work. Here's a link that should help without any
more information to go on:

BTW RH9 is now not supported, so have a go at installing Fedora Core 3,
which is the latest version of Red Hat for community use.

Installing it won't be a problem, as your configuration files are hidden
in /home, and won't be splattered if you upgrade.
