- List of global hot keys in Windows
- Posted by jd on December 15th, 2006
Hi, does anyone know where I can find a list of the global hotkeys for
Windows and other popular software?
I'm adding a global hot key to a project I'm working on and after much
testing chose the combination CTRL+SHIFT+K. However, the first person I
gave the application to said that although the hotkey worked, it also
opened a new calendar event in Outlook. I'm looking for a reasonably
comprehensive list of key combinations that popular software registers
(IE, Office, Firefox etc.) so that I can choose a key combination that
is unlikely to conflict with any widely used pieces of software.
Something similar to http://lixlpixel.org/mac-keyboard-shortcuts/ but
for Windows machines.
Many thanks in advance
JD

Google for "windows key shortcuts", maybe add global. There are
sites which have complete lists.

CTRL+SHIFT+K opened a new calendar because it was the focus program.
CTRL+SHIFT+K opens my Address book in Agent
CTRL+SHIFT+K want's to do something in Opera but another account is
needed (which I'm not going to create).
All the above worked at different times, not all at once, because the
program was the focus or active (front window) at the time.
Many programs can/do share the same key combos, it's the users
responsibility to be in the correct program when they are pressed.
