- locating file extensions to attach to email
- Posted by Jan on November 16th, 2003
Hi
I asked this on another group and didn't get a response.
Last week my Office 97 shortcut seemed to reset itself, told me to
wait while
it was loading. After that, I struck trouble. I wanted to send email
with
attachment. Nothing shows up except for cfm files. All my other
files are still
in the computer but they don't show up to attach to email. Just the
ordinary files
like my resume and so-on, they are hiding somewhere.
Do I need to reset something? What & how? & if I have to re-install
Office does that cause any problems? Can anyone help? Thank you.

You did get one, if you know what it means.

Was it a .doc file? Text file? Binary file?

Jan - you asked a couple questions here.
This might be a silly question but when you go to attach an email do
you make sure the field below the filename selection shows all files?
Office basically goes to the directory you last chose for an
attachment.
To answer your other questions:
a .doc is a Word document in Windows file directory
a Text file is a .txt file... basic stripped down text processing
software.
Reinstalling Office is not a problem but I would start with checking
the field I mentioned above to make sure that it shows all files
first...
Check back if you need more help.

Yes, that "all files" the only choice it's giving me. But all it
brings up
as a choice to attach are these cfm files. What I want to attach are
(at the moment) plain old word documents. Which I've attached
previously, like resumes and similar.
I do know what doc & txt are, it's this cfm that's got me stumped -
and how to
get the other documents that are all in my hard drive to show up for
attachments.
I've never knowingly attached a cfm file. The last I sent was a word
doc (.doc) and this problem's only come up since the Office shortcut
re-loaded itself for
some reason.
