Microfilter???
Posted by SeventhStranger on August 12th, 2004

Hi,

my brother-in-law has recently started having problems with his broadband
connection in that it just disconnects after a short peiod of time.

He has been in touch with his ISP and they have suggested that he may need a
micro-filter for his phone socket. They said that because he has Sky Plus,
it could be causing problems.

Has anybody ever heard of or had this sort of problem?

Many thanks.

Tell your brother-in-law that he should not use the
same phone socket for Sky that he does for the
modem connection -- have his phone company
install a separate connection.

Thanks Mike, do you mean that his phone company just need to install a new
phone socket or an entirely new line?

Cheers

I got High-Speed from my local providor and i have Micro-Filters insalled on
my line and I have a T-Splitter installed on the same line as the ADSL and a
microfilter on it to a cordless phone, and none to the DSL modem -- and it
works fine -- although i had issues like subscribed below and i had to get
my ISP to send me a new filter

It is standard
Microfilters are exactly what is required, In fact in his Broadband
package he would have been supplied with a couple of free
microfilters - ALL BB packages are supplied with them!
You can purchase them for a couple of quid from Maplins or PC World.
Your Bro-in-laws probs will be solved...........
At least he got it right and subscribed to sky, unlike you with the
awful blueyonder (only joshing...............)

Yes, sorry, I should have made that clear; a new socket
should be sufficient.

This is a UK based prob, "Mike" may have misunderstood-
all that is required are the microfilters - a couple of quid
from your local maplins..........

why's and wherefores.

This is also assuming that he *does* have his
microfilters fitted -- I am assuming this, since
you stated that the problem is a recent problem.

it is easy to tell if the sky plus is the reason to cause your
connection dropped. unplug your sky calble box such a short period and
to see whatz going on next. if the same thing still happens, then not
the fault of sky plus.
