Mobile Phone

I brought my elderly father a mobile phone about 2 years ago for emergencies
as he is on his own. My husband has just lost his mobile, so as my father
never uses his (he could never get the hang of it) he has given it to my
husband. The problem is, when you switch it on a message appears 'Sim Card
Registration Failed' then when you try to make a call it says 'No Network
Coverage. When I try to call the number on the phone, it says 'Number Not
Recognised'. I think because it has not been used for such a long while, it
has probably been cut off. It is a Nokia 3310. The book tells you nothing
about how to get reconnected or what to do. Can anyone help please. Thank
you.

go to a mate or shop that has software to free the phone from the sim lock.
there are plenty out there which will do it for a couple of quid.

father didn't reload it within 365(or whatever) days) in which case you
would have to buy a new one. they don't cost much. if your husband has put a
different sim card in the phone, read my first.

It is a pay as you go and still has the original sim card in it. It hasn't
been topped up for several months as it was never used. There was still
quite a bit of credit on the phone before the last top up of another £10. We
have done nothing to it yet. Thanks for your help.

credit on the sim card). maybe they will unlock the no. for you. or you
would have to get a new sim card(as i say they don't cost much). but i'm
sure they would do something for you, due to the fact that the card still
has credit.

Then phone the customer services dept of the operator the phone is on. They
should be able to tell you why it doesn't work even though there is credit
on the card.

VZW phones are CDMA which I don't believe use SIM cards-- I think only GSM
phones use them. It it's a GMS phone, it's not compatible with the VZW
nework.

Hi Gordon.

The problem is likely to be that the number/sim has expired. venders do this
to make sure that numbers are always avaliable. due to number pools (like ip
pools), which are not inexpensive. it would be likely that if she dialed her
husbands number that she would have a complete stranger on the other end.

ok. just read the full message. the number has not yet been reallocated. but
due to the length of time in which the card was not reloaded the sim is
likely to be dead.

Have tried that. Whoever has found the phone has obviously switched it off
or replaced the sim already.

i was talking about the number that he now has from your dad. after reading
your op again i noticed that the number hasn't ben reallocated. just the
sim has expired. call the company and explain to them what problems you
have. I'm sure they will either reallocate the number to your card or give
you a new number but with the credit that was on the old one.

good luck, Trish.

Have phoned 02 customer services and they confirmed it was cut off because
it had not been used for so long. We have got to get another sim card and
then top up again. Bit cheeky of 02 to cut the phone off while it still has
about £16 credit on it, which aparently we cannot reclaim, so we lose that.
Anyway thanks for your help. Will now go and purchase a new sim card.
