- Mouse Aopen is Int. 12 won't open
- Posted by John C. Polasek on December 11th, 2003
System won't recognize my new Aopen mouse, and after a bit it appears
that it uses Interrupt 12 and indicates that this is in conflict with
my Ethernet card or router. Is there any fix for this?
I tried Aopen's help line but I grew frustrated there. This must be a
common problem.

I sincerely doubt it's in conflict with your router.
If there's a conflict with the Ethernet card, then your machine's
BIOS is well and truely fubar - since IRQ 12 is reserved for the PS/2 Mouse
port! Nothing else should use it on any but the most recent boards.
It isn't ...
What indicates that there's a problem?
And what OS are you using?
And what mouse did you use earlier?

Win 98, and an ethernet card for Roadrunner.
The Aopen PS/2 mouse is on Int 12 and so are the network controller
and PCI something. I actually got to a window where it looked like I
could change the setting on the mouse, but it was forbidden. Is there
somewhere I can change the assignment of what I guess is my Ethernet
card? Would un installing the ethernet card and reinstalling it with
the new mouse present work?
I have both mouses connected now, and both light up. The original one
that still works is a "4D mouse" USB with side buttons that can't be
programmed.
Sorry for delay in answering.

Might help ... but yah, you might be able to change it in Device
Manager.
Not sure - not all NIC drivers permit that.
But it's a piss poor driver that installed using IRQ 12, since
that's the PS/2 mouse port ...
Is it that you want to program the side buttons?

especially loved the double click.
The Aopen appears to have an elaborate scheme of dropping down a menu
of actions you can do. I haven't got it all doped out yet.
Maybe the thing to do is uninstll and reinstall the ethernet card with
Aopen in place. Trouble is Im crippled in that there wont be a mouse
action available "till it works".

Can't you leave the USB mouse also installed? Or borrow one?
You can use both mice at the same time (well, you might not be able
to - but Windows 98 and above don't barf at the idea <B-) )
