Mouse weirdness in IExplorer sometimes ??????

I thought my mouse was going bad so I installed a new one.
Occasionally in IE6.* my mouse seems to double click when I browse
down a page. The text jumps down an extra page or so. I installed a
new mouse and still get the same thing. I can hear a rapid audible
"snick, snick" sometimes over the speakers. Any idea what is causing
this? It's been happening for about a month now and is a little
annoying. No new software had been added when this started or I would
have looked around for a patch or something for it and I haven't found
anything, so far, on Microsofts knowledge base.
