I can vouch for the heat-stopping effect of cooking foil on the window;
even on the inside of the glass it makes a big difference. You can fix it
to sheets of cardboard for easy removal in the afternoons, or moving to the
other side of the building. (It would also have the effect of reflecting
heat back into the room in cold weather).
It might be a good idea to 'crinkle' the surface if the window faces a
road, so as to reduce glare for drivers.
The aliens haven't complained (at least, not that I've heard).

Been that way as long as I can remember. Must be working for them.

Or is it so I can't photograph them when...uh...no, that can't be
it.
In fact they keep moving into Los Angeles, here, in record numbers.

Some cheapy black material/cloth from the market
(maybe doubled over if not thick enough)
Hooks and wire usually used to hang net curtains.
Sorted
EP.
ps.
for me my net curtain was like this
[-------------------------------------------------------------------]
but for the black out I need to have
[-------------------------------][----------------------------------]
as the material was kinda heavy.
My window either faces north or south - the direction the sun rises at/from.
It also looks down a long street.
So I used to get baked from ~7am to 3pm+ during most of the year.
Tin foil was good as it's light and stays up just by using a bit of blue-tac
But me cloth work wonders.
