- My room is too sunny in the AM
- Posted by Brian on September 4th, 2005
My room in the condo gets the direct morning sun, and when I wake up it's
just boiling in here despite fans on and all windows open.
My windows have the long verticle blinds, but they don't help as much as I
want, and they make a big racket while they move and hit eachother.
What are some alternatives I can use in the room? I don't want to go
mounting a whole new curtain system since I don't own the place, my buddies
folks might not be too happy. Is there anything makeshift I can easily do
everynight to block out the morning sun?
Aloha

Brick your window up.

Stop the sun outside the room, not inside. Get some sunscreen fabric

If there are no existing screens, that's a different problem.

I used to use black plastic, but it gets so hot it nearly melts. The foil
really does work. In fact, a neighbor once had a wood stove too close to his
paneling, which was so hot you couldn't touch it., and so he lined the
paneling with foil. It reflected the heat away from the wall, and the foil
itself was never too hot to touch.
I keep the foil on the inside for ease of removal in the winter. Outside
would be better because the heat never touches the glass, but it is more
inconvenient.

Good luck in finding such nowadays though...the damned high rises have
pretty much screwed up access to same. They (high rises) are massive
heat sinks too...temperatures are several degrees higher than they used
to be. They've really screwed up Honolulu.
