- Nero software won't install
- Posted by Bryan Henderson on December 30th, 2003
I am trying to install Nero 5.5 which came with a DVD rewriter I bought
today. The process starts but stops when it tries to configure Windows
installer. Other software on the disk installs ok for example PowerDVD.
Any ideas why this won't install? TIA for any help.

There's no mention of your operating system, so check if
you actually have the Windows Installer on your system.

It is Win 98SE. Surely if some programs will install then it must be there?
Is there a file to look for?

What programs did you have running in the background while you installed
Nero (like antivirus, etc.), if any.

Norton was running and was running when I eventually got it installed. Also
there were probably some other programs running as there always seem to be a
few hidden apps running.

There should not be any background programs running while you install
software, especially AV programs and especially Norton AV.
In any case, I see you got it working, so good!

I would have chimed in earlier, but have been tied up elsewhere.
May I suggest you dash back to the shop where you bought it, and ask if you can
swap for one that contains version 6.

any particular reason? I have it installed now. Is 5.5 problematic?

No, but it *is* "old stock".
Why settle for last years model when this years is available.

I take your point but the DVD drive was manufactured in Dec 2003 so it is
very new but I guess they have decided to bundle Nero 5.5 instead of 6.0.
When did 6.0 come out?
The DVD drive cost £110 and had Nero 5.5, PowerDVD 5.0 and a couple of other
editing/authoring packages so all in all it wasn't overpriced!! The software
on its own would have cost almost that much.
