- Network adaptor trouble in xp home

Can someone help
I'm having trouble connecting my pc to a ethernet network
The o/s is windows xp. The problem is that when i right click
my network places and select properties, no network adaptor is
available to configure. i get a message saying the network folder
was unable to retrieve the list of network adaptors on you pc,
make sure network connections service is running.
ANyone know what this is.

Sorted the problem, someone had been messing with the system services

Hey, Jimi, how did you fix this? I've stopped and restarted the Networ
Connecitons service, rebooted, many times, still can't see any Networ
Connections, only get the same error as you listed. Thx for your help
