Network Card install problems :(
Posted by Kaysnntp315@sbcglobal.net on September 3rd, 2003

Hiya,

I had my onboard NIC go out and so am attempting to install a PCI NIC. In
Windows XP, it's listed, but I had a problem installing the drivers, so the
installation is incomplete. I went into my BIOS and killed my onboard NIC,
thinkning this was the problem and attempted to install the drivers for the
PCI one again, but no good. When I try to uninstall this NIC, I get the
message that I can't uninstall it because the card might be needed to get
Windows to boot. With this in mind, how do I get this thing installed
properly?

Thanks a Trillion in Advance.

X-No-Archive: Yes

I have VERY limited experience of XP, but..
Somewhere in the "add remove" hardware gizmo is a button to (?) show hidden
devices. The clever souls in Richmond have set things up so that just
unplugging some hardware doesn't remove it from your configuration setting,
just hides it from you (in case you want to plug the damn thing back in).
You have to work a little to kill the errant hardware.

Worth a shot. Latest snafu is that the card isnt showing in Device Manager
now, but on reboot, XP doesn't detect it. Installed a number of NICs in my
time and never had a problem before. I'm guess I'll find that ultimately the
card is just faulty.

What good is it if he tells you? You're such a fuckwit that you'll tell
him to update the firmaware or locate the faulty installation and remove
it. Won't you, you fuckwitted pillock?
