- Network monitor etc

Here's an irritating little problem. I've just had to do a complete re-
install after a crash. Everything's fine, except for 2 things.
Firstly, I have a hardware device called 'PCI simple communications
controller' that says it has no drivers. I don't know what it is, so
where would I look for drivers?
Secondly, the little icon that appears in the system tray telling me
what speed I'm connected at etc has disappeared. Not a huge problem but
I'd like it back.
Are these things connected?
Sorry, I'm technically challenged.

Sounds like a modem due to the "communications device" but many times
these "mystery devices are members of the motherboard's *chipset* and
the drivers would be found on the disc for your motherboard or on your
motherboard's manufacturer's website.

Install, and run it. It will tell you all you want to know, about all your
system.
