- New kit - upgrading?
- Posted by Silvabod on September 29th, 2005
New pc, Athlon 6400 64 bit, Gigabyte mbd with 3 PCI Express slots, only one
free.
I need a second LAN connection (one is already on the m/b). Have a couple of
PCI cards. Will PCI cards work in PCI E slots? Don't want to play around
without good info .. have "googled" and got (to me, a near non-tech novice)
conflicting info. Some say you can, some say you can't, others say you can
BUT a 10/100 PCI LAN card will slow the entire system bus down.
In layman's language (i.e, simple terms) please advise ?

2 LANs - 1 for cable modem, t'other for wired network to laptop (don't need
full blown network via router, only the 2 pc's on the network)
